Belgravia’s finest boutique hotel reopens after an extensive refurbishment and launches The Buttery, an all-day café

The stunning 28-bedroom Lime Tree Hotel which has been in the Goodsall family for 12 years, underwent a complete refurbishment during lockdown and has just re-opened with a stunning new café - The Buttery, guest lounge and secret garden.

It’s rare to find an affordable hotel in central London; even more so in the bourgeois Belgravia area. But the Lime Tree Hotel is just that, and what’s more it now boasts stunning new interiors and has the air of a place in the English countryside. With cosy doubles from £135 and singles from £110, you’ll be hard pressed to find better value in the centre of town.

Matt & Charlotte Goodsall took over the elegant Georgian buildings in 2008 and have recently completed an extensive refurbishment of the two grade II-listed townhouses into a delightful boutique bolthole. They worked with Fraher Architects on the re-design. Rooms are just the ticket: smart without being lavish where you can expect warm Farrow & Ball hues, crisp linen, bold wallpaper from Andrew Martin & Sanderson, Roberts Radio’s, eclectic art and unique design touches like Pooky lampshades. The bathrooms are well-appointed with rainfall showers and all the Bramley goodies.

The Buttery is your new go-to brunch hot spot in Belgravia open to both guests and the public. The café style restaurant is adorned with fun artwork (including bold pigeon racing certificates, bought from one of the builders who shared his award-winning past time with Charlotte during the works), welcoming staff and friendly chatter as the locals have quickly made this their new spot. Through to the back you will find a stunning garden reminiscent of a country cottage – the peaceful walled garden feels like having discovered a magical secret oasis, a whole world away from the heady bustle of nearby Sloane Square.

The laid-back all-day menu, designed by new head chef Fern Lough (previously head chef at Georgian House Hotel and Hereford Road), offers brunch classics, delicious salads, savoury treats and home-made cakes, complemented by the finest London-roasted coffee from The Gentlemen Baristas and speciality loose leaf teas. Indulge on the wicked Nutella French Toast (v) served with a garnish of fresh berries (moderation, right?) or Aubergine & Chickpea Sabih (vg) and Ancient Grain with Pumpkin & Goats Cheese Salad for those looking for more of a lunch time offering.

The hotel stands less than a mile from Buckingham Palace, with Westminster, Sloane Square and Piccadilly all a short stroll. Overlooking Elizabeth Street, the heart of London’s Belgravia, the Belgravia neighbourhood offers everything from tempting interiors boutique Joanna Wood, to delicious cupcakes from Peggy Porschen, couture hats from Philip Treacy and beautifully designed treats for your dog from Mungo & Maud.

Add to this perfect location the warm interiors of Lime Tree with kind, on-hand owners, a delicious café, and the secret garden and you’ve unearthed a London gem.

Singles are from £110 and doubles from £135 – room only.
