Margate House Hotel now open

Introducing a brand-new boutique guesthouse by the sea in Margate’s cool Cliftonville

Margate House Hotel is now open. With nine bedrooms, breakfast in bed and a make-yourself-at-home attitude, the new guesthouse is the brainchild and passion project of Will Jenkins – a property developer and owner of successful London rental company – who’s lovingly restored the previously derelict building on Dalby Square. The interior design boasts a playful approach to colour and pattern, creating joyful, dynamic spaces that are instantly recognisable. Expect warm tones of pink, terracotta, and burgundy, which compliment perfectly original character features, such as the exposed brick fireplaces and original wooden flooring.

There’s a collection of vintage posters from Projekt26, work on show from Henrietta Dubrey and Kavel Rafferty (in affiliation with L’absurd) as well as a gallery of emerging artists to discover the drawing room – Jemma Rowe’s collection is the first on show this summer. In the biggest bedrooms there are bay windows with sea views, and all of them are peppered with linen bistro curtains, scalloped lampshades, bespoke wavy headboards, stripes, velvets, vintage rugs, and eclectic finds from local antique dealers (including Chris Ifill Antiques and Cliftonville Antiques). There are Haeckel’s toiletries (made using seaweed handpicked in Margate) in all the bedrooms. And in the morning hampers of coffee, fresh juice, and a daily bake of the day from nearby Staple are delivered to the rooms. Or for something heartier, Margate House has partnered with The Good Egg to offer a bespoke menu exclusively for guests including classics such as Challah French toast, Halva cookies and Babka slices.

Downstairs, the stunning open plan living and drawing room is equipped with an honesty bar (made from a beautiful repurposed antique display cabinet), cosy seating areas and a larder of locally sourced goodies to tuck into.
